Having good orthopaedic health is essential in helping one maintain an active and pain-free lifestyle. The musculoskeletal system, which is comprised of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and connective tissues, can be susceptible to a variety of injuries and disorders that affect one’s mobility and comfort. Our orthopaedic specialists, Dr Chong Xue Ling is experienced in diagnosing and treating all conditions of the knee, hip, shoulder, back, hand, wrist, foot, and ankle. See our comprehensive range of orthopaedic services below:
Being the joint through which the entire body’s weight is transferred to the foot, the knee is particularly prone to injuries due to the amount of stress it has to bear, especially if you’re an athlete. Trauma and overuse injuries are very common in the knee.
Did you know that almost a quarter of the bones in the body are found in the feet alone? The foot and ankle are deceptively complex parts of the body – small yet highly intricate.
The neck and back are particularly critical parts of our body due to the area’s close proximity to the spine, which is designed to provide stability and smooth movements; as well as the delicate spinal cord, a crucial part of the body’s central nervous system.
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint connecting the head of the femur (upper thigh bone) to the pelvis. Due to its location, hip problems must be quickly and effectively addressed or it will impede mobility.
We often take our hands for granted and don’t realise just how much we use them – from gripping and
writing, to performing tasks with great precision, such as playing musical instruments and sewing.
Coupled with how delicate and intricate the structures in the hands and wrists are, trauma and overuse injuries can easily occur.
The elbow joint is what gives your arm the ability to bend and your hands the ability to turn. The elbow is often overlooked, but it shouldn’t as it is actually prone to overuse injuries as well as dislocations and fractures! You also run a higher risk of elbow injuries if you play racquet sports, such as tennis and golf.
Common injuries in this area involves injury to the shinbone (the bone connecting the knee to the ankle) or femur (the bone connecting the knee to the pelvis), and are often caused by trauma that result in fractures.
The shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body, with the ability to rotate, swing, reach, lift, extend, elevate, retract, depress, and so on. However, this wide range of motion comes at the expense of stability, in spite of a series of muscles, ligaments and tendons supporting it.
Our Specialised Services
Not only are bunions unsightly, they are also painful and inconvenient. Left untreated, the bunion will worsen,
which can result in further pain and even deformity in the other toes.
We provide effective and minimally invasive procedures to treat bunions, tailor-made to suit the individual’s
condition.
With the knee bearing a great deal of body weight and stress (especially in high-intensity actions like running
and jumping), it is very prone to trauma and overuse.
As we are heavily reliant on our knee in order to remain mobile, it is vital that knee injuries are treated as
effectively as possible with minimal downtime and scarring.
Dr Chong Xue Ling graduated from National University of Singapore, and received her Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery, before attaining Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
She is also a member of the European Group for the Study and Research of Minimally Invasive Surgery of the
Foot and Ankle.
Dr Chong is the only orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore accredited with double fellowship in foot and ankle
surgery as well as shoulder and elbow surgery. Apart from her research contributions, Dr Chong is also
regularly invited to present at conferences, and remains actively involved in medical missions.
